![]() Posted 25 November 2015. To Patriots, Family and Friends,
As we gather tomorrow to celebrate this Thanksgiving, my thoughts go out to you and yours for a safe and happy Holiday. One of many things to be thankful for is our unique ability to be able to celebrate this Holiday Season in our beloved Nation. For those of us who are fortunate that we may spend this Thanksgiving with Friends, Family and our Loved Ones - please take a reflective moment to recognize and remember those Servicemen and Women who are not able to be with their Families this year due to their dedicated service to Our Great Nation.

![]() Posted 03 August 2014. NATIONAL PURPLE HEART DAY
August 7
On this day in 1782, in Newburgh, New York, General George Washington, the commander in chief of the Continental Army, created the "Badge for Military Merit," a decoration consisting of a purple, heart-shaped piece of silk, edged with a narrow binding of silver, with the word Merit stitched across the face in silver. The badge was to be presented to soldiers for "any singularly meritorious action" and permitted its wearer to pass guards and sentinels without challenge. The honoree's name and regiment were also to be inscribed in a "Book of Merit."
Washington's "Purple Heart" was awarded to only three known Soldiers during the Revolutionary War: Elijah Churchill, William Brown and Daniel Bissell, Jr. The "Book of Merit" was lost, and the decoration was largely forgotten until 1927, when General Charles P. Summerall, the U.S. Army chief of staff, sent an unsuccessful draft bill to Congress to "revive the Badge of Military Merit." In 1931, Summerall's successor, General Douglas MacArthur, took up the cause, hoping to reinstate the medal in time for the bicentennial of George Washington's birth. On February 22, 1932, Washington's 200th birthday, the U.S. War Department announced the creation of the "Order of the Purple Heart."
It's not a medal a Soldier wants to earn. Criteria and standards are strict so as to protect the sacred nature of this military decoration. It is a medal of immeasurable cost and inestimable value. Recipients of the Purple Heart Medal are referred as "Patriots" in keeping with the historical connection to the Badge of Military Merit. And Patriots they truly are.
On this day, please all take a moment to reflect on the history of the Purple Heart, it's special meaning and remember the estimated 1.8 million Patriots awarded the Purple Heart Medal since February 22, 1932.
Yours in Patriotism

![]() Posted 04 July 2014. On this Independence Day we celebrate our great nation’s victory of tyranny and the establishment of the United States of America as an independent and sovereign country. A country that promotes liberty, freedom and hope for all of its citizens.
That freedom from tyranny did not come without sacrifice. Our liberty was, and still is, forged through the blood and tears of many selfless Patriots, Soldiers and their families. It is through their courage and sacrifice that we can celebrate 238 years of freedom today.
There are men and women deployed today, putting themselves in harms way, in order to continue to ensure that the United States of America remains free. We pray for their safety and wish them luck as they stand watch guarding our doors from terror.
I wish you all a safe and happy Independence Day. May God bless you and God bless America.

![]() Posted 09 June 2014. Hello All,
In the past few months our Chapter has accomplished so many great things in supporting Combat Wounded Veterans, their Families, Veterans in general and our Community. Our inaugural issues of Chapter 572 Newsletter is a huge success and a very heartfelt Thank You to Chapter Adjutant Christopher Vedvick for that venture. The Department of Arizona State Convention was a treasure trove of valuable information sharing and as a result, Chapter 572 received accolades from the National Junior Vice Commander Robert Puskar, Region VI Commander DR. Richard D. Small, as well as State Commander Billy Weldon. Congratulations to Patriot Joe Tidwell (Chapter 790), State Inspector and National Aide de Camp on his Honor of being named Patriot of the Year for the Department of Arizona. We have joined in assisting Valor Hospice in their volunteer program for caring for Veterans in Hospice Care, as well as making a donation to their library fund. We have had the Honor of recognizing four outstanding young Citizens from Tombstone High School, Buena High School, Nogales and Rio Rico High Schools with the Military Order of the Purple Heart JROTC Leadership Award. Also, we were honored to recognize the Girl Scout and Brownie Troops in Sierra Vista for their contributions in supporting our Servicemen and Servicewomen, Wounded Veterans and their Families and Veterans of all Services.
Our Viola Sales were a huge success the 1st two days of Memorial Day weekend, in a combined 14 hours; $2002.51 was raised. Another HUGE heartfelt THANK YOU to the Citizens of Cochise County. Also, Trailboss Outfitters has begun a campaign on Chapter 572's behalf - the entire month of June, 2% of all firearm sales will be donated to the Chapter. As many of you know we of the Chapter have a long relationship with the kind folks at TrailBoss for their outstanding and continuous support of the Annual Top Shot Charity Shooting Event. Top Shot 6 is scheduled for October 25, 2014. The raffle prize and tickets will be decided upon this week so look for tickets to be coming out SOON!! Another huge THANK YOU to Mr. Josh Rummerfield for his unyielding efforts in making this event more successful than the last. We could never put into words our appreciation for Josh.
I want to Thank Chapter Adjutant Christopher Vedvick again for all of his hard work in putting the ideas in a proposal for Sierra Vista to become the First City in Southern Arizona to be designated as a PURPLE HEART CITY, his written proposal was beyond reproach and was extremely well received by Mayor Rick Mueller and the City Council. We are expecting a favorable vote on the proposal at the up coming City Council Meeting.
Participation at Chapter meetings and events are at a high point than in the last five years, a very special Thank You to all for that achievement. And I am very pleased to announce that we have had six New Members join the Chapter in the last year.
Thank You all for your support and dedication.
Yours in Patriotism

![]() Posted 22 May 2014. To many, Memorial Day, the Federal U.S. holiday that takes place every year on the last Monday of May, is just another excuse for a three-day or four-day weekend. It’s also known as the day that marks the official start of summer and as a day devoted to getting great deals at the mall. However, the true meaning of Memorial Day goes far beyond barbecues, pool parties and mattress sales.
The holiday began after the Civil War, and at that time was known as “Decoration Day.” While it was originally founded to honor the Soldiers who died in the Civil War, today, Memorial Day is a day to Honor all of the Americans who have died in the Service of our Great Nation.
Patriotic Americans should take a moment from their day of celebration and leisure to reflect on the brave sacrifices of those who have given their lives for this Great Nation. I ask that ALL Americans take time to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Yours in Patriotism

![]() Posted 23 December 2013. All,
The holidays are a time for celebrating, spending time with loved ones, and gathering to reflect on the past year. With many of our Service members returning home to celebrate with their Families, this season takes on extra significance for those in the military community. It is also a time to remember the sacrifices that our Service members, their families, and caregivers are making every day. Please take a moment to Honor those Service members who are not able to be with loved ones this season.
On behalf of the Officers of MOPH 572, I wish everyone a safe and happy Holidays.

![]() Posted 16 July 2013. My Fellow Patriots:
The Ft Huachuca DPTMS is considering changing the venue for the POW/MIA Observation in September. In the past, a POW/MIA Walkathon is held on Fort Huachuca, but off-post participation has not been very large. The belief is because it is conducted so early in the morning. In lieu of that, there is consideration being given to holding a POW/MIA Luncheon at the Thunder Mountain Activity Center (TMAC) instead. Please give this consideration and provide input to myself or any of the Officers of Chapter 572.
Thank You.

Reminder that this past meeting was our last meeting for the Summer, best wishes to all and enjoy the Summer Travels if you are planning any. Our next meeting is tentatively scheduled for 25 Sep 2013 at Land Mark Cafe. Also, I'd like to again express my humility and gratitude at the distinct honor of the confidence the Patriots of our Chapter have placed in me as I assume the duties as Chapter Commander. I know I echo the thoughts of my fellow Patriots that Our Former Commander, Todd Hamilton served with unqualified distinction and I am very aware of that I "have big boots to fill, and I have small feet." Thank you all one more time, and enjoy your Summer. Looking forward to seeing you again in September.
